Fit video to the overview screen

Use the right media shape and keep advertising out of Access and In-room.

Before you begin

  • Use Overview mode; advertising must be off in Access and In-room.
  • Know the orientation saved in the setup wizard.
  • Prepare a landscape 16:9 asset and a portrait 9:16 asset for their matching slots.

Product design guide: these are the required Signage workflows, not a claim that every step exists in the reviewed overview branch. Check the rollout guide and your installed build before use.

Step by step

  1. Use the saved orientation

The display’s physical portrait or landscape orientation comes from setup. A viewport resize must not choose a different ad arrangement.

  2. Fit landscape video above a portrait overview

On a portrait device, put a complete 16:9 video slot at the top. Fit the video inside it without cropping it into a thin strip. Keep the plan and room panes below when they are enabled.

  3. Fit portrait video beside a landscape overview

On a landscape device, put a complete 9:16 video slot at the left. Use the matching portrait asset and fit its full frame. Do not carry the old always-top ad band into this arrangement.

  4. Keep the content switches independent

Enable or hide the plan, room details/schedule and ads separately. Ads-only hides both information panes. Turning ads off removes the advertising slot; Access and In-room never show it.

  5. Check the media on the installed device

Verify the entire frame, playback and audio policy using the intended assets. Check portrait and landscape independently and confirm no advertisement leaks into door or session modes.

You’re ready when

The full video is visible in its orientation-specific slot, with no cropped band and no advertising in Access or In-room.

Troubleshooting

The video is a thin cropped banner
Check the installed implementation: the reviewed branch has an always-top carousel. Replace that layout with the saved-orientation slot arrangement; verify fit rather than crop.
Landscape still puts video above the plan
Check that the saved Landscape setting selects the left-hand 9:16 slot, not a viewport-derived wide-screen rule.
Ads appear at a doorway or inside the session UI
Check mode gating. Advertising from feature/digital-signage-ads-co stays Overview-only in the requested product.

Common questions

Can I use one cropped file for both slots?
Prepare matching 16:9 and 9:16 assets. The device should fit the full frame rather than crop one shape into the other.
Can Overview show ads without a floor plan or room list?
Yes. Ads-only is the arrangement with ads on and both information panes off.
