Design face-verified EV charger borrowing and return

Borrow an EV charger stored inside a compartment, verify your face again to return it, then finish the same booking.

Before you begin

  • Treat this as a solution design. The reviewed kiosk does not connect face verification to equipment collection and return.
  • Identify each charger and its storage compartment. Bind the booked person, charger, compartment, site, and permitted borrowing period to one booking.
  • Define how the correct charger and a closed door will be confirmed at return. Face verification identifies the person; it does not prove that equipment is inside.
  • Prepare face enrolment and an approved staff-assisted path for failed verification, missing equipment, damage, or an uncertain door result.

User-defined solution design checked against integrate-nekospaze-app at 5d1abe32660e, reviewed 8 September 2026. The current booking-PIN and staff routes do not implement face-verified equipment borrowing, confirmed return, or scoped staff assistance.

Step by step

  1. Book the charger

The proposed service reserves a specific charger stored inside its assigned compartment. Show the location, collection and return period, and borrowing terms before confirmation. Keep this booking open from collection through return; do not create a separate return booking.

  2. Verify your face to collect

At the storage kiosk, verify the booked person's face. Before unlocking, the implementation must match that person to the active booking, charger, compartment, and collection stage. A recognised face without this entitlement must not open a door.

  3. Take the charger and keep the booking open

Open the assigned compartment, take the booked charger, and close the door. Record collection against the same booking and keep it in use until return. Follow the equipment provider's use instructions outside the compartment; this guide covers custody, not electrical operation.

  4. Verify your face again to return

Return to the storage kiosk and verify the same booked person's face again. Resolve the existing in-use booking and its assigned charger and return compartment before unlocking. A different person, another booking, or an already completed booking must not grant return access; use approved staff assistance for an exception.

  5. Return the charger and confirm the door

Place the correct charger and its required accessories back inside the assigned compartment and close the door. Confirm the item identity, required return condition, and closed door through the installation's defined checks or an authorised attended check. A face match, unlock command, or closed empty door is not proof of a completed return.

  6. Finish the same booking

Complete the original booking only after the return and closed-door checks are confirmed. Record the return outcome and remove further borrowing access. If the charger is missing, damaged, mismatched, or the door result is uncertain, keep the return unresolved for staff review rather than marking the item available or completing automatically.

You’re ready when

A testable equipment-borrowing journey: face verification at collection, face verification again at return, and completion of the same booking only after the charger and door are confirmed. This requires implementation.

Troubleshooting

Face verification fails at collection or return
Do not bypass the person-to-booking check or use someone else's face. Ask authorised staff to verify the borrower and booking through the approved assisted process. Keep the booking unresolved until the actual custody and return outcome can be recorded.
My face is recognised but the wrong compartment is offered
Do not continue with the open action. Have the operator check the person, booking, charger, site, and compartment mapping. The intended design must reject a mismatch before issuing a door command.
The charger is missing, damaged, or not the booked item
Report the item and booking to authorised staff. Do not mark the return complete or make the charger available to the next borrower. Staff must inspect and record the exception through the approved custody process.
The door does not open, close, or report a clear result
Keep the booking and return unresolved. Ask authorised staff to inspect the assigned compartment and record the actual item and door state. A successful command alone cannot confirm collection or return.
The booking finishes when the charger is first collected
The current parcel PickUp action completes a booking and revokes its codes. It cannot serve as the collection step for this borrowing design. Implement distinct collection and return transitions that preserve the same booking until the confirmed return.
A return is late or the booking cannot be found
Ask staff to locate the original booking and resolve the overdue or missing-record case. Do not create a replacement booking merely to open a compartment or conceal an unresolved return.

Technical details

Current source boundary
The kiosk has parcel and retail flows. Its parcel PickUp action completes the booking and revokes booking codes without confirming physical item return or door closure. Face preferences are not an equipment-access decision.
Proposed borrowing record
Keep one booking linked to the verified borrower, charger identity, compartment, site, borrowing period, collection result, return result, and staff exceptions. The record must distinguish reserved, in use, awaiting return confirmation, and completed outcomes.
Acceptance: collection identity
The booked person verifies their face and opens only the compartment containing their assigned charger during the permitted collection stage. Wrong-person, wrong-item, wrong-compartment, expired, or revoked collection access is denied before a command.
Acceptance: booking stays open
Taking the charger records collection but does not complete or replace the booking. Repeating the collection request cannot create another borrowing session or grant another compartment.
Acceptance: return identity
The same booked person verifies their face again and resolves the original in-use booking. Only its authorised return compartment can open. Wrong-person and already-completed cases require denial or an approved staff-assisted exception.
Acceptance: physical return
A second face match, a sent unlock command, or a closed empty compartment cannot complete the booking. Confirm the correct charger, required accessories and condition, and closed door before recording return completion.
Acceptance: failed or uncertain return
Failed face verification, missing or damaged equipment, a mismatched charger, and uncertain door state keep the return unresolved. Do not advertise the item as available while staff are reconciling the exception.
Acceptance: staff assistance
A separately authenticated and authorised staff member records the borrower, original booking, assigned compartment, reason, actions, and actual custody result. The assisted path must not become unrestricted customer or maintenance access.

Common questions

Is this a fixed charging station or a charger stored inside a locker?
It is an equipment-borrowing service. The EV charger is stored inside a compartment, taken out for use, and returned to that compartment under the same booking. Spaze Storage manages the intended custody and access journey.
Is face-based borrowing and return available in the reviewed kiosk?
No. Face appears in the hardware catalog and authentication preferences, but the current parcel kiosk uses booking PINs. Face-to-person authorisation, equipment matching, and a same-booking collection-and-return lifecycle require integration.
Why verify my face twice?
The intended design identifies the booked person before collection and again before return. Each attempt must authorise the correct booking, charger, compartment, and stage; the first verification does not grant unrestricted future access.
Does the second face match finish the booking?
No. It permits the authorised return step. The correct charger must be returned and the door confirmed closed before the booking can finish. Missing or damaged equipment needs staff review.
Does this storage booking require a charging platform or energy billing?
No. The requested journey lends and receives physical equipment. A vehicle-charging platform, charging-session control, and energy metering are not prerequisites for this storage booking. Equipment use remains subject to the provider's separate instructions.
Can staff help if face verification is unavailable?
The design needs a separately authenticated and authorised assisted path. Staff must verify the borrower and booking, record the reason and exact compartment, and confirm the custody outcome. The current kiosk's hidden staff entry is not that protection.
